Rockwell fire department to hold fundraiser to help pay for tools and equipment

Rockwell Fire Department

ROCKWELL, IOWA – A fundraiser will be held in Rockwell to benefit the fire department, which needs to replace equipment and tools and cover other expenses.

The Rockwell Volunteer Fire Department is an all-volunteer organization made up of twenty dedicated and trained members who respond to all types of emergencies, Chief Mark Lowe says. “We provide fire suppression, vehicle extrication, and specialized rescue within our fire district and assist neighboring departments as requested.”

Lowe says the department does receive financial support through tax dollars, but it simply is not enough to function on. “In order to purchase or replace equipment and tools our department must seek additional funding,” Chief Lowe explained. “Currently we hold several fundraisers and submit numerous grant requests each year and rely on the community’s support.”

In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week this year, an open house will be held and lunch served on Saturday October 14th from 11am to 3pm. Soup, hot dogs, chips and a drink will be served. There will be activities for the kids and the trucks and equipment will be on display.

“Please come join us for some lunch and conversation,” Chief Lowe said. “We are using this letter to reach everyone in our fire district to formally request a donation. Our department has developed a strategic goal and identified needed items that your donation will support.”

Some of the items that need funding include:

Turnout Gear (boots, pants, coats, helmets, gloves) as this equipment has a 10 year service life and ours will expire soon
Hand Tools
Thermal Imaging Camera
Hand Held Radios

Additionally, a long-range goal is to expand the current building in order to accommodate current and future needs. Lack of sufficient space has been identified as a priority and as such funds will be required to accomplish this.

Donations may be dropped off at First Security Bank in Rockwell. You may also bring your donation to the open house and drop it off there.
