MASON CITY – The Mason City school board approved a contract for work at $60.00 an hour for a former school district employee who was paid an unauthorized $10,000 in salary.
By a vote of 5-1 Monday night, with director Jodi Draper the lone “no” vote (Doug Campbell abstained), the Mason City school board approved an extension of the human resources consultant agreement with Jodie Anderson until September 30, 2017.
This would be an extension for 4 weeks X 25 hours per week (100 total) X $60/hour for a total of $6,000.
According to school documents, “the agreement with Jodie Anderson as human resources consultant since July 17 has positively served the district as expected. Jodie’s knowledge of the district and its HR procedures and practices; as well as her relationships with administrators and staff; and her organizational skills have helped the district fill 110 positions to date, a large number of these coming after July 17.”
According to the “rationale” from the district for this proposal, “While a part-time human resources director has been adequate in preparing the district for the first day of the 2017-18 school year a full time director is necessary and appropriate to now find as soon as possible. The extension of the agreement with Jodie Anderson will allow the district to meet its HR needs as the school year starts and rely on her expertise in assisting the district in recruiting, screening and hiring a new Director of Human Resources.”
The search process for a new Director of Human Resources will begin August 22, and the district “anticipates having a recommendation for the position at the September 18 board meeting.”
The reaudit report from the state auditor released Monday shows improper payments of $10,900.24 were paid on Jodie Anderson’s behalf. (See table 1 on page 11 of the reaudit report.)
