NEWTON, IOWA – A convicted Iowa child molester was found hanging in his jail cell this weekend.
Paz Alcides Chica, age 43, was pronounced dead at 9:53 PM on Saturday, August 19 after he had been found hanging in his cell at the Newton Correctional Facility.
Staff noticed the apparent suicide at 10:05 AM, and staff performed CPR until Chica regained a pulse. Chica was transported by Lifeflight to Mercy. Due to no brain activity doctors took Chica off life support. The medical examiner is performing an autopsy.
Chica had been serving a sentence for two counts of sexual abuse 3rd degree- Life Special Sentence, three counts of lascivious acts with a child in Buena Vista County; and two counts as a sexual predator- prior conviction from Sac County. His sentence began on April 23, 2014.
Matt, I would appreciate it if you would do something about the (anonymous) poster(s) that post comments under other posters names. LVS has never attacked me, and I have no reason to attack him, as in the post at, August 23, 2017 at 4:40 pm under the name Allen. If posters are paying attention, they can tell it was not me. Some people,(anonymously) think that it is OK to be a child molester. And then when the molester gets caught, and convicted, he can’t do the time, so he hangs himself, his supporter, (anonymously) feels bad for his death. I feel sorry for people that think molesting children is OK. Death is a fitting penalty.
There you go again Allen, thinking for other people as if you had a clue. Maybe this person does have a problem with child molesters, but maybe he/she has a problem with someone dying. I don’t really feel sad because this man killed himself. But, I am not going to dance on his grave and shout Hosanna to the heavens either.

I hate to break it to you Pat but I have been using LVS for years and they are my initials. Almost everyone knows what my name is as I have never tried to hide it. I am proud of my name which is different from “Anonymous”. How do we know Pat is your real name?? You could be anyone. The time line look fine to me.
I read the story as he was in the hospital on life support and did not pass away until 9:53 PM, approximately 12 hours after he was discovered in his cell at 10:05 AM.
