MASON CITY – Friday, August 25th is the final day for candidates to file nomination papers for the office to be filled at the September 19, 2017 Mason City Special Election. That election will fill a vacancy in the Council Ward 3 position.
To be listed on the ballot, a candidate must file nomination papers that include a minimum of ten signatures of eligible Mason City electors. The county auditor urges each candidate for office to get many more than the minimum number in order to avoid a challenge to the legal sufficiency of the nomination papers.
Nomination forms and information about signature and filing requirements are available on the Cerro Gordo County website www.co.cerro-gordo.ia.us, and at the county auditor’s office. Normal business hours are 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The auditor’s office will be open an extra half-hour – until 5:00 p.m. – on the final date for candidates to file nomination papers.
So far, only one candidate has announced for this election, Joshua Masson. The seat became vacant when Brett Schoneman resigned.
