UPDATE: Minor in custody after person stabbed at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES – The Iowa State Patrol and the Des Moines Police Department are investigating a stabbing at the Iowa State Fair.

According to a brief sent by the Iowa Department of Public Safety, at approximately 10:25 PM, presumable Tuesday night, a 21-year-old male was stabbed near the SW corner of the fairgrounds. The victim was transported to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines in a critical, but stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available.

Later Wednesday afternoon, authorities reported that the victim has been identified as 21-year-old Tay Ronce Denton. Denton is in stable condition at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The minor in custody that has been charged with (2) counts of willful injury has been identified as 17-year-old Yuri Green. Green remains in custody. Two other juveniles that were involved in the altercation have received notices and are no longer allowed at the Iowa State Fair.

The Iowa State Patrol wants to remind fair goers to practice safety; be alert and aware of your surroundings and be responsible while attending the Iowa State Fair this year.
