NIACC’s Nick Frenz wins Golf Coaches Association of America Scholarship

Nick Frenz
MASON CITY – Former NIACC student-athlete Nick Frenz, the son of NIACC golf coach Chris Frenz, has been awarded the Golf Coaches Association of America Presidential Scholarship.

Frenz, who ran cross country at NIACC in 2015-16, was one of four winners of the inaugural scholarship. Other winners were Emily Bermel, who is a member of the Kansas University softball team, Samantha Grost, who is a junior at Oklahoma University, and Moriah Heppler, who attends Dixie State University.

To be eligible for the Golf Coaches Association of America scholarship, the student must be a son/grandson or daughter/granddaughter of a golf coach that belongs to the association.

Each of the candidates were selected based upon their achievement in the classroom and outstanding involvement on campus and in the community.

Nick Frenz, who was a student ambassador in his time at NIACC, will be a junior at the University of Iowa in the fall and is majoring in education. His goal is to be a high school teacher and coach.

“I am very honored and humbled to have received the scholarship,” said Nick Frenz, who graduated from NIACC in the spring of 2017. “It puts much less of a financial burden on my family as I chase my hopes and dreams.”
