DES MOINES – The Mason City Newman Catholic baseball team won the Class 1A state championship Saturday in Des Moines, defeating Martensdale St. Mary’s 8-3 at Principal Park.
Starting Pitchers were Evan Paulus for Newman and Kevin Duncan for the Blue Devils.
Newman has its 6th state title and finishes the season 35-3. Martensdale-St Marys finishes 41-5. They beat Newman in the 2004 and 2012 title games.
