Fleeing motorcyclist crashes, runs into woods and escapes cops

FORT DODGE – A motorcyclist was chased into Fort Dodge early Thursday morning, where he crashed his wheels and successfully – so far – fled on foot.

On Thursday, June 15, 2017 at approximately 2:34 AM, the Webster County Communications Center was notified that officers from Sac City were attempting to stop a motorcycle that was attempting to elude them at a high rate of speed. Our center was further notified that the motorcycle was likely heading into Webster County and may be specifically headed toward Fort Dodge.

Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department reacted quickly and positioned themselves on the east side of our city to intercept and assist if necessary. The driver of the motorcycle entered Fort Dodge at Highway 20 and 169, heading north to the off ramp at 169 and 2nd Ave. South. It was at this point that the driver struck the median and fled on foot into the wooded area near the Fort Dodge Country Club. A perimeter was set up around the area that the pursuit ended and a K9 from Sac County attempted to track the driver.

At this time, Fort Dodge police are reporting that the driver of the motorcycle has not yet been located. Their officers continue to follow up on leads and are requesting that anyone having information regarding this incident will contact the Fort Dodge Police Department.

Additional agencies involved in this incident include the Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Iowa State Patrol, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Rockwell City Police Department, Sac County Sheriff’s Department and Sac City Police Department.
