MASON CITY – A convicted bike thief wanted on arrest warrants tried to flee cops Tuesday night – on a bike – but just couldn’t peddle fast enough to keep his freedom.
A Mason City police officer observed a subject who had warrants for his arrest late Tuesday evening, June 13 at the 400 block of South Federal Avenue (Yes Way). Police say the man, 36-year-old Ryan David Ihde, attempted to flee the area on a bicycle. Cerro GOrdo county deputies also responded, and Ihde was subdued by multiple officers. Ihde was wanted on three arrest warrants, according to the county’s most-wanted list. He was taken into custody on new charges of interference with official acts and fourth-degree theft.
Ihde remains in the county jail on bond, awaiting a court date. He was arrested last September on a felony second-degree theft charge when he was caught with stolen bikes after police had served a search warrant at 330 South Pennsylvania, Apartment #4 on September 15, 2016. Ihde was later guilty of the crime and in a March plea deal, was given a suspended fine, 3 years of probation, suspended prison sentence of 5 years, and 180 days in the Beje Clark halfway house.
