Two juvies busted for racing through Floyd county

FLOYD COUNTY – Juveniles in a motor vehicle from Cedar Rapids reached speeds of 120 miles per hour as they attempted to elude law enforcement on the Avenue of the Saints Friday morning, westbound out of Floyd, before they were caught.

Around 3:19 am Friday morning, a Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for speeding west of Floyd on the Avenue of Saints. The vehicle then took off and hit speeds of over 120 miles an hour while heading westbound.

An Iowa State Trooper deployed stop sticks near the Interstate 35 and Avenue interchange, where the vehicle ran into the ditch. Two juvenile males ran from the vehicle but were captured after a short foot pursuit.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered the two juveniles are from Cedar Rapids and were driving a stolen vehicle from Cedar Rapids. A handgun and drug paraphernalia were also found in the vehicle.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office says neither of the males are being identified and were transported to a detention center. The driver was charged with eluding, 1st degree theft, carrying weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They also face charges in Cerro Gordo County.

No one was injured in this incident. The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Clear Lake Police Department.
