MASON CITY – A Newton man with a dubious past allegedly committed some nefarious acts this weekend at a recreation area south of Mason City.
NIT is told by the Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office that there was an incident on the afternoon of Saturday, May 13 at the Fin & Feather recreation center just outside Mason City. At about 3:08 PM, a deputy responded to an altercation call there. An investigation uncovered that 29-year-old Eric Todd Nelson of Newton, Iowa was there and had let the air out of tires and smeared mud on a Silver 2001 Olds Alero.
As a result, Nelson was arrested on a charge of fifth-degree criminal mischief. He was jailed and soon released, pending a court date.
Nelson is a convicted felon out of Jasper county for burglary, a crime he was sent to an Iowa prison for.
