Hawkeyes lose starting wide receiver

Jerminic Smith
IOWA CITY – University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz announced Friday that wide receiver Jerminic Smith will no longer be a member of the Hawkeye football program.

“We have mutually agreed that at this point it is in everyone’s best interest that Jerminic starts a new chapter in his collegiate career. We wish him success moving forward,” said Ferentz.

Smith (6-foot-1, 187 pounds) is a native of Garland, Texas (South Garland HS) who would have been a Junior. Hawkeyesports.com says he is first true freshman under Kirk Ferentz to record over 100 receiving yards in a single game (118 vs. Illinois). He caught 23 passes last season and started 9 games.

Iowa is already said to be thin at receiver heading into the 2017 season.
