Douglas “Doug” James Lensing, 60, of Charles City, passed away on Monday April 3, 2017 in the comfort of his home under his family’s care with his guard dog, Ellie at his side.
A funeral service for Doug Lensing will be held at Hauser Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017 with Chris Hewitt, nephew of Doug, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017 and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Monday.
Doug, the son of James Joseph Lensing and Barbara Ellen (Ward) Lensing, was born on October 9, 1956 in Charles City. He attended Charles City Community Schools. In 1974 Doug was married to Teresa Zappa and they welcomed four children together, later divorcing. Doug joined the US Navy and served his country from 1974 – 1976. Upon returning from the service, Doug began his truck driving career which turned into a passion of his for 21 years. Doug met Leslie Hansen in 1994, uniting in marriage in 1996 and they shared 23 years together. In 1998 Doug decided it was time to leave the road to be closer to his family so he began working at McNeilus Co. Inc., later finishing his career at Carquest.
Doug had many hobbies in life which included attending antique shows in search of new treasures for his various collections, grill outs with the family, playing bags, swimming in the pool, weekends with grandkids followed by his one of a kind pancake breakfast, Sunday coffee with his family, watching NFL Football and hosting his annual football pool, playing cribbage, spending time outside working in the yard and trivia date nights with his wife.
Living family members include his wife, Leslie of Charles City; four children: Jerry (Denise) Lensing of Charles City, Stacy (Brad) Kellogg of Floyd, Mindy Lensing of Charles City and James (Amber) Lensing of Des Moines; two step-daughters: Tessa Weber of Charles City and Jessi (Jake) Mahnesmith of Nashua; eleven grandchildren: Michael Lensing, Madison Lensing, Payton (Anthony) Lensing, Pierce Lensing, Ethan Prior, Autumn Prior, Nicolas Prior, Johnny Kudron, Owen Weber, Talan Weber, Cooper Mahnesmith and Lincoln Mahnesmith; three great-grandchildren: Ayden Johnston, Avery Johnston, and Amelia Johnston; two sisters: Kim (Doug) McInroy and Michelle (Steve) Houghton; along with many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and dear friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
