Three Charles City teens charged with felony threat of terrorism

CCPD

CHARLES CITY – Police in Charles City today announced that three teens have been taken away by juvenile authorities and charged with felony threat of terrorism after an incident last week at a school.

At about 10:13 AM Wednesday morning, March 22, officers with the Charles City police department responded to the Charles City Middle School for an incident. Officers responded and investigated along side school staff, talking with several people. As a result of that incident and the ensuing investigation, on that date, a 15-year-old male student was removed from school and turned over to juvenile authorities.

After further investigation, today, a 14-year-old female and a 14-year-old male were taken into custody and remanded to juvenile authorties.

All three individuals have been charged with Threat of Terrorism – a class D felony.

Reportedly, the incident revolved around posts made to social media.

The Charles City Police Department and the Charles City Community School District continue to cooperate in the investigation of an incident last week regarding inappropriate social media posts, the district said Tuesday.

“The Charles City Community School District takes social media posts seriously and digital citizenship is a critical skill that should be undertaken with forethought. Words have consequences and law enforcement today issued consequences for three individuals who made poor choices last week.
We emphasize, our cooperation with local law enforcement ensures student safety is our top priority.”
