MASON CITY – Two Mason City men with dubious pasts engaged in hand to hand combat at the infamous Beje Clark halfway house last week and were taken to the real jail as a result.
Mason City police were dispatched for inmates fighting at the Beje Clark halfway house, 818 15th Street SW, on March 15 before midnight. Two inmates incarcerated there as “punishment” were involved in an altercation. Officers arrived and after an investigation, arrested Jonathan Ray Wheeler and Rudy Andrew Huerta.
Mason City police tell NIT that the fight “apparently began over what show to watch on the tv and it allegedly turned physical.”
Both were taken to the county jail on disorderly conduct charges. Huerta was soon released after Victoria Flores posted $100.00 bond. He’s due for trial on April 12, records say. Wheeler remains in the jail.
Wheeler has been incarcerated in the Beje Clark halfway house a number of times in the past. He’s a convicted meth dealer who was charged with aggravated assault back in 2015.
Huerta was said to be a member of the “Savage Squad,” a small gang-like subculture of teens who harassed, bullied and robbed other teens in Mason City – as described to NIT by one mom. She said back in October of 2014 Huerta and his gang of thugs robbed her son of his lawn mowing money as they terrified him with threats of violence. Huerta was charged with ongoing criminal conduct as part of a criminal network, criminal gang participation and other crimes including robbery. He was given a deferred judgement with probation of 5 years. Back in November, Huerta dodged a felony willful injury charge last year in true Cerro Gordo county justice and was given a plea bargain to assault causing bodily injury. He violated his probation in connection to his gang activity and robbery and was sent to Beje – perhaps for some form of rehabilitation or punishment.
I do have to give Beje Clark a big thumbs up! I do know of one who came from prison then this place is where he stopped then from there ended up home with me. And not in all of his days since prison,to Beje Clark and home has he ever broke the law again not even a seatbelt law. He follows the law to the t. And I hated it worse then he did with all the strickness that Beje Clark had on him and me of getting him back there on time but we did it. So you keep things going just like they did back in 1994-1995 and don’t you give them no slack in there cause you sure didn’t us when my dad was passing away 2 hours from mason city it was 2 hours from mason city we got to my mom and dad’s house for my guy to meet my dad on my dad’s death bed and ask my dad for his permission to marry me. And dad gave it knowing the story we couldn’t stay long and I had to get my now fiance back to BC 2 hours away but we made it back on time. Long story short if I wanted my dad to meet my guy I had to shorten my visit as well with terminally dying dad so yes I’m still a little angry that in a case like this why couldn’t they gave him just a little longer cause the next time my fiance seen my dad was in his casket. So very sad. So I had a few upsets about that place but we got through it.

Beje Clark is a rotten place. They are far from the business of rehabilitation and in the money business.

Looks like Rudy Huerta hasn’t learned a thing from his incarceration. Save some time and ship him back to jail.

Your comment about “crooks from all over the area” is misleading as this Facility is in the 2nd Judicial District which includes 9 counties..this is where the majority of the residents are from…”this area”. Also, one does not come into Beje Clark on their own, a court order from a judge, coming from prison both state and federal or OWI is how someone ends up in this Correctional Facility. I, for one, appreciate the court system trying to give someone the opportunity to turn their life around…unfortunately, for some this is a stepping stone to prison! Unless you are wanting to spend more tax money on the prison system…we need a Facilty such as Beje Clark. With our govenerment turning back monies from education, treatment and corrections; there is no easy answer…I agree these young punks are clowns…some of this is generational…any answered as to a better way, please contact your local politician! Suggestions are better than criticism!

I agree with you on this. Beje Clark provides a needed service in our area. Rehabilitation should be the goal of imprisonment. That said, Beje needs to hire people who have the desire to help rather than just do a job. Some of their employees are hateful and vindictive. Some are not. NIT has often offered its opinion on Beje and its residents and its not good but they never offer any solutions to the problems of the prison system.
What is it with Mason City and their little pussy organizations of teeangers that pick on people? Not only that but they have to give themselves little nicknames copied after a mediocre pop band from the 90’s. Robbing a kid of his lawnmowing money? What a bunch of clowns.
