IOWA CITY – In the wake of President Donald Trump this week signing an executive order that would punish so-called sanctuary cities by withholding federal funds, mayors of those communities plan a show of unity for immigrants – including the mayor in Iowa City.
Iowa City Mayor Jim Throgmorton will join with mayors across the country to demonstrate Iowa City’s support for immigrants and immigration reform.
Throgmorton will join with communities large and small to proclaim Tuesday, March 21, 2017 as Cities Immigration Day of Action. He will make the proclamation during the council meeting tonight.
“This proclamation highlights our city’s continued commitment to supporting immigrants, and to bring our entire community together in that effort,” Mayor Throgmorton said.
Throgmorton and mayors across the country are stressing the vital contributions that immigrants make to communities. They are also urging Congress and the Administration to focus on common sense reforms that will fix the nation’s immigration system in an efficient, effective and compassionate way.
Mayors are amplifying their message by using #MayorsStand4All across social media. Iowa City will carry the proclamation live on Facebook and on City Channel 4. Look for #MayorsStand4All on the City of Iowa City Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The Cities Immigration Day of Action is part of a larger organized effort coordinated by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

I wonder if the good mayor forgot about the oath of office he took? A portion of that oath would be that he agrees and swears to uphold the law. If he allows illegal aliens into Iowa City, then he should be charged with harboring a criminal(s).
Since it appears Mayor Jim Throgmorton, can no longer uphold his oath of office, he should resign immediately.
If you really believe this, then the same standards should apply to the President.
