Iowa State Finished at 2017 NCAA Championships

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Iowa State wrestling team (1-12, 1-6 Big 12) was eliminated from the NCAA Championships on Friday afternoon.

Redshirt senior Lelund Weatherspoon faced Wisconsin’s Tyler Christensen in a 174-pound consolation match up. The Badger was good on top, and was able to ride out Weatherspoon in the second period.

In the final stanza, Christensen earned a reversal and continued to ride hard. He defeated Weatherspoon by 3-0 decisoin.

Day One Recap
In the opening session of the 2017 NCAAs, Iowa State posted 1-2 record. No. 14 Weatherspoon held the lone Cyclone victory.

In a tightly contested match at 174 pounds, Weatherspoon notched a go-ahead takedown with less than 20 seconds on the clock. He was able to ride out Stanford’s Peter Galli to earn a 3-1 decision.

Weatherspoon fell short of reaching the quarterfinals after suffering a 10-4 loss from Ohio State’s No. 3 Bo Jordan.

Both No. 13 Earl Hall and Marcus Harrington were eliminated on the first day, posting 0-2 records.
