Protesters in Central Park on February 5, 2017

MASON CITY – Folks who are unhappy with President Trump and other Republicans who are making changes to laws affecting workers’ rights will be holding a demonstration Friday evening in downtown Mason City.

Organizers of the event acting under a national grassroots movement called “Strike4Democracy” say that as the Donald Trump presidency unfolds, it is becoming increasingly clear to them that his administration “does not have our best interests at heart.” They have put forth a call to action and organized a local strike “to defend the constitution.”

Where Do We Go From Here (A non-partisan community action group) and The 4th District Green Party Chapter have joined forces to support union workers on General Strike Day, Friday, February 17. Under the Trump / GOP administration, “union workers are under attack,” the say.

“First, the Trump administration came for the Muslims, and now he is coming for immigrants and is targeting our hard-working union men and women.

“Union workers have toiled for more than forty years to get where they are today. Having fought for fair pay and a safe working environment for American workers, just to have it all go away with the stroke of a pen. These local groups have heard the call from the Industrial Workers of the World for this strike and are mobilizing to show support.”

On Friday, February 17th, they will assemble to show support for American workers. The rally will start at 5 PM and go through 8 PM in Central Park across the street from City Hall.

The general public is invited to participate.

Odd….some of them seem willing to make a stand by protesting in public, but then some of them hide their faces behind a protest sign.

And you register your protestations here with a hidden identity. Odd indeed.
