Pairings released for national wrestling tournament

COUNCIL BLUFFS – The pairings have been released for the 10 weight classes at the NJCAA national wrestling tournament set for Feb. 24-25 at the Mid-America Center.

The tournament starts at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 24 with first-round preliminary matches

No. 12 NIACC qualified eight wrestlers for the national tournament at last Sunday’s NJCAA Central district tournament in Iowa Falls.

The Trojans qualified Brennen Doebel (125), Jamarius Jackson (133), Austin Anderly (141), Colby Winnett (157), Tucker Black (165), Ryan Faught (174), Jaylen Lee (184) and Mario Pena (285).
NIACC’s first round matches

125 – Brennen Doebel (9-2) vs. Andrew Niessen (Itasca).
133 – Jamarius Jackson (9-3)) vs. Tyus White (RCTC).
141 – Austin Anderly (11-5) receives a first-round bye. Anderly faces either Curtis Barnett (NE Oklahoma) or Anthony Vizcaino (Northland) in the second round.
157 – Colby Winnett (6-4) vs. John Leal (Clackamas).
165 – Tucker Black (17-8) vs. Kyle Mock (Nassau) in second round match. Both Black and Mock received first-round byes.
174 – Ryan Faught (9-15) vs. Tyree Overton (Lincoln).
184 – Jaylen Lee (8-12) vs. Deven Simpson (Mercyhurst North East).
285 – Mario Pena (14-9) vs. Wade French (Western Wyoming).
NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

Friday, Feb. 24

7:30 a.m. – Official weigh-ins.

9:30 a.m. – First-round preliminaries.

Noon – Second-round preliminaries, first-round consolation, second-round consolation.

6:15 p.m. – Championship quarterfinals, third-round consolation, fourth-round consolation.

Saturday, Feb. 25

9:30 a.m. – Official weigh-ins.

10:30 a.m. – Championship semifinals, consolation quarterfinals.

Noon – Consolation semifinals.

1:15 p.m. – Consolation finals (3rd, 5th, 7th place matches)

6:30 p.m. – Parade of all-Americans and Wrestling Coaches Association Awards.

7 p.m. – Championship finals.
