AMES – Three Florida men were spotted speeding away from an Ames crime scene, leading to a chase by local and state law enforcement and their arrests.
On February 12, 2017 at approximately 11:15 a.m., an officer from the Ames Police Department noticed a car leaving the area of the Ames Racquet and Fitness Club at 320 S. 17th at a high rate of speed. The officer noticed broken windows on vehicles in the lot. He gave a description of the vehicle and occupants. Another Ames Officer was in the area of Highway 30 and Interstate 35 and saw the vehicle pass him. He pursued for short period of time and was able to get license plate information. This officer recovered some property that had been thrown from the vehicle.
The Iowa State Patrol located the vehicle a short time later. The driver eventually lost control and crashed the vehicle. Three occupants attempted to flee on foot, but were apprehended by State Troopers. Multiple charges of Burglary to Motor Vehicles were filed on each individual.
Derrick Dylan Harmon, age 27 of Hollywood, Fl. 3 counts of Burglary 3rd Degree of a Motor Vehicle, 2nd or subsequent offense, all Class “D” Felonies.
Ahmed Xavier Hall, age 27, of Fort Lauderdale, Fl. 3 counts of Burglary 3rd Degree of a Motor Vehicle, 2nd or subsequent offense, all Class “D” Felonies.
Denzel Hermes Sanon, age 20, of Miramar, Fl., 3 counts of Burglary 3rd Degree of a Motor Vehicle, all Aggravated Misdemeanors.
All three individuals were taken to the Story County Jail.
This incident is still under investigation and additional charges may be filed.
