Mason City woman faces felony robbery charge in costly confrontation

MASON CITY – Two women were engaged in a parking lot struggle Monday evening, leading to an intervention by police and a felony robbery charge for one of the combatants.

Mason City police tell NIT that Monday night, January 30 at 5:10 PM, an MCPD officer observed two females in some type of physical altercation in the Yes Way parking lot, located at 1303 4th Street SW. The officer and other officers responded. Both females were separated.

It appears that Heather Adams, age 26 of Mason City, confronted a known female about some type of ongoing or prior disagreement. Adams then allegedly took the victim’s phone without permission with the intent to deprive the victim of the phone. During the theft, Adams allegedly assaulted the victim to facilitate the theft. The victim had minor injuries to her face. It is unknown if the victim sought treatment later for her injuries.

Adams was charged with felony second-degree robbery and jailed. Adams’ vehicle was towed to the police department, and police are applying for a search warrant for the vehicle.

Adams remains held in the county jail on $10,000 bond as she awaits a court date in February.
