AMES – The Iowa State wrestling team (1-9, 1-5 Big 12) closed out the weekend with a 34-3 loss to No. 1 Oklahoma State (10-0, 4-0 Big 12). Iowa State got its victory courtesy of redshirt sophomore Marcus Harrington.
Harrington picked up the only win on the night for the Cyclones. At 197, he defeated Oklahoma State’s Derek White by 3-2 decision. A takedown in the first 30 seconds of the match proved to be the difference in the contest.
The 133-pound match featured No. 12 Earl Hall and No. 3 Kaid Brock. In the third, the match was knotted at 4-4. Brock earned a takedown with 15 seconds left in the bout to win by 7-4 decision.
John Meeks scrapped to a gritty 8-5 decision against No. 1 Dean Heil. Although the Cowboy came out on top, it took a late takedown in the third to close the door on Meeks.
No. 10 Lelund Weatherspoon was pitted against No. 8 Kyle Crutchmer at 174 pounds. Late in the match, the score was 3-2, advantage Crutchmer. Weatherspoon was unable to notch the takedown to defeat the Cowboy and fell 3-2.
Next Up
The Cyclones will be off the mat for the next week and a half. They will travel to Pittsburgh on Feb. 10 and take on West Virginia on Feb. 12.
