FORT DODGE – The NIACC volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Iowa Central Triton Volleyball Invitational Saturday.

NIACC dropped a 3-0 decision to North Platte CC and topped Carl Sandburg College 3-1 in its two matches Saturday.

North Platte CC stopped the Lady Trojans 26-24, 25-20, 25-19. NIACC gained a 19-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 win over Carl Sandburg College.

“It was another day of facing very good talent,” said NIACC coach Chris Brandt, whose team is 18-12 overall. “We worked hard to gain the confidence needed to play at that level.

“Our defense was sold and was able to make the adjustments needed for each team.”

The 18 wins by the Lady Trojans is the most since Brandt took over as coach in the 2010 season.

On Saturday, Kaylee Whittington led the Lady Trojans with 16 kills, 18 digs and three blocks. Also, Lauren Ries had 13 kills, 17 digs and four blocks.

Also for the Lady Trojans, Becca Konz had 12 kills and four blocks. Meagan Miller had 8 kills and five digs; Brooke Greenwood had seven kills and seven blocks; Keely Heller had three kills and 10 blocks; Hannah Carr had six ace serves and 25 digs; and Liv Block had 43 digs.

NIACC’s Jackie Bleifus had 38 assists and 24 digs and Hailey Winter had 14 assists and 12 digs.

NIACC wraps up its regular season with a pair of home matches on Wednesday and Thursday. The Lady Trojans face Southwestern on Wednesday on fan appreciation night and takes on the Waldorf University junior varsity on Thursday in their annual Think Pink match.
