Iowa launches statewide ride matching system for commuters

screen-shot-2016-10-22-at-1-19-03-pmDES MOINES – The state of Iowa has launched an application that helps people looking to share rides and commute match up with others.

State officials announced the launch of Iowa RideShare this week, dubbed the “Iowa’s Statewide Ridematching System”. Iowa RideShare is a statewide database that can match you with other local commuters going to a similar destination.

The program and application can be accessed at IowaRideShare.org and appears to be very easy to use. You create a “trip” right away on the home page under “My Commute Options” and then enter a starting point and destination. Each trip can be a one-time journey or a recurring one. For example, you could enter a starting point of “Mason City” and an ending point of “Clear Lake.” You can also create a profile in the program at the website that can help you get matched with folks to share rides with.

Commuters can also use a feature called Vanpool, where you join as a group with other commuters and have access to a vehicle with insurance coverage.
