logo-iowa-state-patrolHAMPTON, IOWA – Three people were hurt in a head-on crash near Hampton Wednesday evening.

The accident took place Wednesday evening around 7:13 PM at the intersection of Highway 3 and Timber Avenue in Franklin county, just south of Hansell. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 22-year-old Abby Christin Urness of Clarion was driving westbound on Highway 3 in a 2002 Buick Century passenger car when she crossed the center line of the highway. The action caused a head-on collision with an eastbound black 1998 Chevy C1500 pickup driven by 55-year-old Mark William Nicholson of rural Hampton. Urness’s Buick came to rest in the middle of the road after the collision, blocking traffic.

As a result of the crash Urness and her passenger, an un-named child were injured, as was Nicholson. All were taken by ambulance to Franklin General Hospital. The condition of the injured persons was not released.

High way 3 in franklin is very deadly!

Highways themselves aren’t really deadly, it’s the morons that drive 6000 pound killing machines, drunk or preoccupied, instead of paying attention to driving, that are deadly.

This is the second one in as many weeks, will we ever know the true cause of these accidents.

Easily 75% of the cars going by our corner have the driver texting. They shoot through the intersection and never look up or slow down. It is just a matter of time and luck until there is a very bad incident. It is not a accident if it can be prevented. They should throw the book at these irresponsible people.

Talking on phone or texting ? If so should be against the law n inforsted
