Iowa Republicans brag: We are closing “the gap” on absentee ballots

vote_hereDES MOINES – With only 25 days until Election Day, Chairman Jeff Kauffmann and the Republican Party of Iowa expressed confidence that Republicans will have the votes needed to turn Iowa red in November.

Historically, Republicans vote on Election Day in higher numbers and Democrats tend to vote by mail or by absentee ballot in higher numbers. However, as of yesterday, Democrats are down 52,156 absentee ballot requests compared to the same point in 2012. The difference between the total Democrat absentee ballot requests and total Republican absentee ballot requests is what we call “the gap”, and as of yesterday, the gap has decreased by 60% from 2012.

“I just want to thank Bill Clinton for making an early voting trip to Iowa. During his visit to our great state this week, over 40,000 Republicans requested absentee ballots. You have to give it to the guy, he sure knows how to inspire Republicans to vote,” said Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann. “Thanks to the united effort here in Iowa, we will have the resources necessary to continue this program and get Republicans to the polls on and before Election Day.”
