CHARLES CITY – In what can only be described as ‘news of the weird’, police responded when a woman was spotted kneeling in front of a man in front of a police station.
The odd incident took place at about 3:42 AM Sunday morning, August 28. Officers with the Charles City police department were summoned by dispatch to observe a security camera view showing a female kneeling in front of a male in the front parking lot of the Charles City police station. In response, an officer exited the building to confront the couple’s actions.
The officer discovered that the male half of the duo had been in a bicycle accident earlier that day and was unable to use his arms. Apparently, the officer found that the female was adjusting the belt on his pants.
An ambulance was then called, and the male was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police did not reveal their names, since no charges were brought and no laws were broken.
Sure……… the old “she was adjusting my belt” excuse.

This was in front of the building so I’m sure they were doing their job and checking their cameras and saw this.
These days you can never tell. Better safe than sorry!
So the police are spying on people using security cameras. It’s why Iowa City voted to remove all security cameras and ban their use. This proves why they had good reason to.
I have no idea where you get your information , I am in Iowa City very often there are currently security cameras all over Iowa City at both govt. And private buildings . It is not spying as these are public places and there is no expectation of privacy under the law. Now if you are refering to traffic (speed/traffic signal ) cameras that now requires cities and counties to obtain a permit for each location. Security cameras have proven to improve safety and security in many cities across the country. They have solved crime and proven innocense of defendants in some cases. They have been used to show cases of excessive force by police and of proper actions of police.
If it’s ok for them to film, then it should be ok for the public to film both police stations and police in the line of duty. Yet if you try this then the whole thin blue line descends on you. Stupid double standards
No you are wrong, supreme court cases have upheld the right of anyone to record the police with video (no one uses film anymore) as long as they do not interfer with law enforcement in their official duties. There have been cases where individual officers have acted wrongly in some of these types of situations, how ever as stated the courts have found those actions to be wrong. Today law enforcement training educates law enforcement on these court decisions.
The Supreme Court isn’t standing next to you while people film though. If it’s legal then why do police make contact all the time. Especially if they know it’s legal. Countless videos also show them asking for ID during these encounters. Sure the cop might know the charge won’t stand up in court but have no problem messing up your day by harassing you or sending you to jail.
