What Terry wants, Terry gets!

Thank goodness the people of Mason City were smart enough to stop this from being built in our town. Feel bad for the people of Eagle Grove and Wright county.

drive by any major business in mason city and there is a “We Are Hiring” sign out front, umemployment rate should be 0% but then we have those who belong to the DDW club (don’t want to work) and sit home and collect welfare. should be a lot stricter rules on the welfare. drug tests, weekly job applicatioins and etc. so where were we going to get the workers for the hog plant seni~or

DDW = “Don’t want to work”? Shouldn’t that be DWW? Additionally it has been proven time and time again that drug testing welfare recipients is more costly than the money it saves. Look it up.

A bullet would be cheaper.

It’s funny how you nut jobs complain about welfare recipients and your state government just gave $11M in corporate welfare to Prestage.

Be careful what you say. We know who you are.

LOL OK. Who am I?

You are a P.O.S.

Good one LVS

Let them do all the drugs they want. Just put a 60-day limit on all government handouts. Then cut them off.

Talked to someone today who was traveling in Mexico. As they were nearing the U.S. border they saw a large billboard that stated there were jobs available at the pork plant in Marshalltown, IA. This is the honest truth. So glad we dodged this bullet!

Pictures or it didn’t happen.

None of this ever happened.

No, I didn’t miss that part. The part I’m saying didn’t happen is the story about the billboard near the Mexican border advertising Prestage Jobs in Marshalltown.

To me, a bit ironic that someone is so righteous that they have no problem telling someone else, “you can’t have this job and work”.

What a bad deal for the tax- payers of Iowa. When did it become the norm to give to corporate welfare? We should not be forced to finance private industry our elected officials are not working for the people.

These types of incentives to attract industry have been going on for decades now. All states do it, the competition is fierce. Where have you been?

That doesn’t make it the right thing to do. This is central government fleecing the taxpayers for their own gain.

Just because it has been going on for decades doesn’t make it right and the people who pay the bills should have a say on how their money is spent. Business people of today are not as good today as they were in the past. Henry Ford never got millions in incentives from the taxpayers to start his business. I think its time all forms of welfare including corporate needs to be on the table for cuts.

Well we are not living in the days of Henry Ford are we. All states offer incentives for new business to come locate there. Why? Because the long term benefit outweighs the cost. In the long run it pays in economic growth. If Iowa did not do it there would be little new growth in the state. But obviously some people who want to live in the past want that not realizing without that economic growth they would end up with less in the long run them as well in the ability of local govts. to operate. Want to pay higher taxes for your city and county services? Keep killing economic investment.

Iowa is the ideal location for any hog slaughterhouse. Prestage should be paying the state to allow their evromentally destructive plants to come in and destroy communities. I fail to see the reason the state needs to give them any money. It is not like local Iowans will be taking any of the shitty jobs in creates. And all the profits will go back to the Carolinas.

Let’s talk about these tax credits. Iowa is the Number 1 producer of hogs. Who would have thought that Iowa may be a good place to put a packing plant?? Prestage has CAFO’s all over Iowa and will be a large beneficiary to this project because they can lower their transportation costs significantly. (In other words, they are already getting a break in their costs by allowing them to build a plant in Iowa.) With Iowa being the top hog producing State, no tax breaks would have still been a good deal for Prestage, what a waste of our Tax dollars.

Let’s see, there is Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, South Dakota and Missouri all in close enough proximity and all have hog production as well. Prestage could have gone to any one of these states, nothing that special about Iowa over these states. Guess again.

Agreed. If they want to start a business that is fine. But, they should fund it themselves. Taxpayer money should never be used to subsidize private business. That includes and especially farmers.

None of those states want them pumping pig shit into their water supply either. Prestage seeked out the dumbest, most gullible communities to stick this on. Thankfully Mason City saw through Ron’s trickery and shooed him off. Eagle grove apparently doesn’t understand. They just have poor leadership.

None of this means diddly squat. Profiteering off of cruelty and abuse is morally, ethically, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, environmentally wrong. The trends are away from meat eating and CAFO farming. Iowa is going backwards. Let Mason City serve as an example as to why Eagle Grove is making a huge mistake. In time, you’ll see the bad karma start to tske shape. Don’t panic and don’t buy into this PR bullshit. Branstad is about over with politically. He’s trying one last fling.

What it means is decent paying jobs for those who want to “work”. Something you know nothing about. It also means more money paid into local taxes, satelight businesses, more and better schools and a growing economy. You should be in favor of this as it waill mean more money available for welfare so sponges like you don’t have to work. Not that you ever would.

As far as taxes goes I’m personally familiar with several high income households that were seriously preparing to exit Mason city as Prestige moved in. Would have taken a lot of working poor meatpackers to make up for that Loss of tax revenue, and this is not even considering all the costs these mostly transient workers would have imposed on the town.

I’m gonna call baloney on that. Leave town only because there is a packing plant is coming to town? That would just be stupid. I think this comes under “talk is cheap”, people say all kinds of things they never actually do.

Bull Shit. All talk and no action. If they were going to leave let them go. We are better off without them.

… and while I’m at it, please let me know precisely which meatpacking towns have public schools that outperform ours. Looking forward to names and links supporting you’re claim.

The 1:50 post is a non sequitur, illustrated time and time again by communities who have been raped and ravaged by corporate greed. Now it has become obvious that the State of Iowa has sold out to them too.

Absolutely no current residents of the community would work there. If they are to lazy to go work in a cold storage warehouse like Martin Bauer for $16 hour, there is no way in hell they would take a crippling job like at a slaughterhouse for $13 hour. People that where for that plant are so naive and stupid. It would have been all immigrant workers working there. And they have all figured out how to get government money just for being foriegn. Would not have improved the community one bit, if the community even survived. Eagle grove isn’t far enough away!

What, you think every one is going to turn vegan?! Not.
Are you one of those who lobbied against Prestage in MC on the basis of cruelty to animals? If so how selfish of you to think you should have your way over others who are looking for a job to make a living. Don’t think there are a lot of people in Mason City who would have liked to have such a job? Get a clue, there are.

Nazis and German soldiers were paid salaries and pensions to exterminate Jewish people. Your argument has holes.

So does your head and yet you keep putting more holes in it. If all of this bothers you so much, just walk out in front of traffic and get it over with. I’m tired of your constant ranting and lunatic logic.

ROTC starts this week. I really have no energy for arguing with you. Yes, I’m enrolled. No, I won’t listen to your negative comments.

Wow… did you just say “Not”. Hey anonymight… 1989 called and they wanted their slang back. LMFAO.

Wake up and deal with the issues neophyte.

What issues would those be troll?
