DES MOINES – Incumbent U.S. Senator Charles Grassley holds a comfortable lead in likely voters in Iowa, according to a Quinnipiac University Swing State Poll released today.
In Iowa, six-term Republican incumbent Sen. Chuck Grassley is holding off his Democratic challenger, former Lieutenant Gov. Patty Judge 51 – 42 percent.
The challenger gets no bounce from women likely voters, who are divided, with 47 percent for the Democrat and 46 percent for the Republican.
Iowa men back Grassley 57 – 36 percent. He leads 93 – 5 percent among Republicans and 57 – 37 percent among independent voters. Democrats back Judge 91 – 4 percent.
“Iowans have known, liked and voted for Sen. Chuck Grassley for decades. That’s why he appears in strong position to avoid the kind of down-ballot bloodletting that may hurt some Republicans in other states who are not as well attuned to the views and values of their home base,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
“Sen. Grassley’s chances for reelection also are helped by the fact that Donald Trump is running better in Iowa against Hillary Clinton than Trump is in many other states.”
Clinton narrowly leads Trump in Presidential poll, 47-44, that Quinnipiac released Thursday.
