GARNER, IOWA – A Britt man was given a deferred judgement in a case of sexual abuse of a child.
The Hancock County Attorney’s Office reports that on Tuesday, the court granted a deferred judgment for Sergio Guerra on the offense of sexual abuse in the third degree (consensual sex act with 14-15 year old by a person 4 or more years older), a class C felony. This alleged crime took place in July of 2015.
The court placed Guerra on probation for 5 years under the following terms: complete the sex offender treatment program; comply with electronic monitoring; have no contact with minors; obtain a substance abuse and mental health evaluation and complete treatment; and pay all fees ($711.00) and restitution. The court also directed him to register as a sex offender.
Slap on the wrist for this fine upstanding man. This is probably not his first offense and probably won’t be his last.
