MASON CITY – The Mason City Youth Task Force will be hosting free a symposium open to the public on August 10, 9:00 — 11:30, in Reunion Hall at Music Man Square, Mason City. Eight speakers from the North Iowa area are scheduled to share information about new initiatives related to youth behavioral health. The Mental Health Advocate from the Ames Police Dept. will present on the role of the advocate in their department.

“This symposium is also an opportunity for us to gather input from a variety of community sectors about what they see as needs related to youth mental health, substance abuse, violence, and other issues,” said Mary Schissel, Youth Task Force Director. “We especially want to hear from the smaller, rural communities” she said.

Educators, the faith community, service providers, youth organization staff and volunteers, parents, and others will benefit from the information at the symposium, Schissel said. Registration information can be found at www.masoncityyouthtaskforce. org or by calling 641-421-2708.

How about the Task force focuses on Parental Behavioral Health? Because of ignorant Bible thinking which commands respect for parents, often deranged and abusive parents seem to get the benefit of the doubt when kids fly wrong. A revolution in thinking calls for looking at issues from different angles.
