Man who allegedly invaded apartment, stole ciggies and stabbed his neighbor is set for trial

MASON CITY – A Mason City man accused of felonies after an alleged rage-fueled burglary and knife attack will stand trial in September.

Police say that a nasty incident unfolded Tuesday night, October 20, 2015, in a Mason City apartment when a man grew “increasingly agitated” and went after his neighbor.

According to Mason City police, officers and medics were dispatched to 723 North Federal on a report that one of the residents had been stabbed that night.

Police explained that a resident of that apartment complex, 57-year-old Dale Reese, allegedly went to a neighbor’s apartment inside the building and pounded on the neighbor’s door. The neighbor opened the door and Reese allegedly forced his way inside the neighbor’s apartment and grew increasingly agitated. At some point, Reese allegedly stole some cigarettes from inside the neighboring apartment and stabbed the neighbor in the stomach with a knife. Reese then returned to his apartment as police were called.

Fire medics tended to the victim while officers and other personnel attempted to negotiate with Reese to surrender. Reese refused to exit his apartment or surrender. Eventually, the North Iowa Special Operations Group (SOG) entered Reese’s apartment with a search warrant and took Reese into custody at 9:02 PM.

The victim that was stabbed refused to be transported by fire medics but did go to the ER. The stab wound did not appear to be life threatening.

Reese was charged with felony First Degree Burglary and willful injury causing serious injury and transported to jail. He’s still being held on $50,000 bond. He is set for a jury trial on September 30 and a pre-trial conference on August 30.
