Man who burglarized Mason City storage unit faces possible return trip to prison

MASON CITY – A Mason City man who helped burglarize a storage unit is back in jail, in danger of a return trip to prison after he was recently released.

Tyler Lee Donahoo, age 21, had originally been given a deferred judgement in July of 2013 after he was accused, along with other young men, of stealing a Yamaha dirt bike from Hawkeye Storage in Mason City in December of 2012. In December of 2013, he was found guilty of violating his 5-year probation in that case, which involved a guilty plea to felony third degree burglary. Donahoo had been caught in April of 2013 drunk driving and in possession of marijuana.

After several other arrests and/or charges resulting in at least 5 contempt of court / probation violations over the next two years, Donahoo was finally sent to prison in October of 2015.  He was given a 5-year suspended prison sentence after his second probation violation in 2014.  There he stayed until he was released this spring, after he served several months of his sentence.

This May, Donahoo – who has lived mostly in Mason City but occasionally in Forest City – allegedly admitted that he violated his probation yet again.  A warrant for his arrest was issued by a judge, and Clear Lake police were able to locate and arrest him on June 23.  Donahoo was taken to the Cerro Gordo county jail and held on $10,000 bond.  He will be in court Tuesday, June 28 to face another probation revocation hearing, which could result in a return trip back to a state prison.
