ENID, OK – The NIACC baseball team dropped an 11-1 eight-inning decision to GateWay CC Saturday morning in the opening round of the NJCAA Division II World Series at the David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
NIACC plays McHenry County College at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in an elimination game. Jones County CC stopped McHenry County 13-6 in its first-round game Saturday.
GateWay jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning and pushed its lead to 2-0 after the third inning.
NIACC trimmed the deficit to 2-1 after the fifth inning but that would be as close as the Trojans could get.
The Geckos plated two runs in the seventh inning and broke the game open with seven runs in the eighth inning to advance to Monday’s 7 p.m. second-round contest.
Garrett Poole gained the win for the Geckos as he struck out four in seven innings of work and limiting the Trojans to a single run in the fifth inning.
