Drunk Chicago man flees cops, crashes car, tries to punch officer (photos)

MASON CITY – A Chicago man now living in Mason City allegedly drove drunk and fled police after a dispute, then crashed his car and tried to punch a police officer.

Mason City police tell NIT that on May 23, 2016, at approx. 2:26 AM, an officer tried to stop a vehicle involved in a dispute. The car failed to yield for the officer in the 400 block of West State Street and soon lost control in the alley behind 9 North Madison, striking a garage there.  The garage appeared to have incurred serious damage.

The driver attempted to flee from the crashed car but was apprehended by officers.

Trapp Leroy Trotter, age 29 and formerly of Chicago but now apparently living in Mason City, was arrested.  During the apprehension, Trotter allegedly resisted arrest and tried to punch one of the arresting officers.

Trotter was arrested and charged with numerous simple and serious misdemeanors including operating while intoxicated, Driving with a Suspended License, Leaving the Scene of a property damage accident.

He was charged for Interference with Official Acts and Assault on a Peace Officer.
