MASON CITY – A power struggle is now underway in the Mason City school district, and the battle has made for chaos at the top levels of the public entity.
NIT will not reveal sources or names at this time as the situation is still unfolding and as a condition for publication of this information.
However, sources are revealing to NIT that a certain top-level employee within the district is on the verge of leaving his/her post – and not necessarily willingly. This employee is asking for several hundred thousand dollars in a severance package / buyout. Counter-offers have been made. This employee has legal representation at this time.
In fact, the Mason City school district also has legal representation due to this situation. These two lawyers, representing both sides in this chaotic and tumultuous face-off, are dictating much of the communication between the two at-odds sides. Accordingly, the rancor between the elected body and this employee is making business difficult or impossible to get done.
Sources tell NIT that a certain highly-paid employee within the district is given direction from the elected body but sometimes ignores directives or does otherwise. This employee has also involved the district in business dealings that were abruptly halted after investigation.
Furthermore, sources tell NIT that this top-level employee helped pave the way for a local Mason City man, new to the eduction profession, to land a high-level job at an elementary school without the proper qualifications and in doing so, has put the district in harm’s way with the possibility of lawsuits for passing-over others that may have actually had the certifications or qualifications the position requires.
This situation is rapidly-evolving.
A school board member refused comment on the matter Thursday evening during a phone conversation.

Election day for school board members – Teachers union reps -school teachers etc. persuading locals to vote for their plants (nominees) who will give them everything they ask for – if an outsider like Donald Trump would become an outsider and not potically correct (corrupt) and overruled by the majority of the hand picked stooges. Think it does’nt happen ? Look at what has happened over the last 15 years – fat cat salaries and benefits that a person in the private sector could only dream of. These people are paid REALLY well compared to the private sector that coughs up the money for these fat cats paychecks and benefits; A friend of mine was a janitor at a local school – Recieved $1000.00 per year cash retirement package $30,000.00 dollars – where did I get enough money to pay him that fat cat bonus? – Oh I KNOW ! I have’nt been able to go on vacation for the last five years! private sector is being taken to the cleaners by our public servants (government of some sort) As PRESIDENT TRUMP says – its time to AUDIT – this is crazy shit and as far as school boards – a woman on the school board up here did not even know that schools can raise property taxes at their whim and did not have a clue that property taxes were tied to schools – more than likely she will vote for Bernie ( you know -everything comes from the free trees he is planting – Public servant unions and lack luster management of our government city/county/state /federal is a nightmare run by greed and crooks. AUDIT AND ADJUST ALL EXPENSES AND SALARIES !.
When a $1000/yr retirement bonus–$30,000 total after 30 years employment–is considered so out of line with the private sector, maybe the problem is the poorly paid private sector in this city.
Instead of railing against that rather small bonus, and trying to bring those jobs down to the low paying job you have, a better labor strategy might be to fight for something better in your job.
Most of the “PRIVATE” sector does not get retirement other than their 401K’s and social security and they pay for both of those and the schools have those available too. Those “Retirement” packages are what is driving cities and states bankrupt right now, Why should people who don’t get them have to pay taxes to give them to other people?
Use your energy to make sure everyone has crappy jobs, rather than everyone has good jobs. Got it.

The fats cats in education are not the janitors. The fat cats are the highly paid outside consultants who are parachuted in at high prices and fees to “manage” everyone else. if you blame the janitors, you fit the fat cats message perfectly.
This is an ongoing problem at Niacc, where teachers who have been there for decades are now being “instructed” by a private group on how to teach online, though most staff have been doing it for at least the past ten years. And though Niacc has its own web specialists on staff, the admin saw fit to bring in folks who are using a metric developed by grad ed students in Pennsylvania.
Most of the increase in tuition nationally has gone to bloated admin staffs, outside consultants, and shiny new buildings, while the number of starvation wage adjuncts has skyrocketed.

Mark Young is at work before the sun comes up and stays until others have long gone. He is hard-working, committed, and is extremely well qualified. He puts the kids and their staff first at all times and has worked to provide innovative and supportive programming for the students who he serves.

I heard that a special executive meeting was Wednesday night about terminating Micich(sp). She is holding out on insurance benefits. They’d like to drop Mark Young also. He has no respect for anyone.Just landed a cushy job.
