Iowa teen could face charges after car rams into stopped school bus

CLAYTON COUNTY, IOWA – A teenage girl plowed into the back of a school bus Monday morning and could face charges.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 17-year-old Lucinda Hansel of Alrington, Iowa, was driving her 2004 Pontiac Bonneville westbound on Highway 3 at the Fayette county and Clayton county line at about 7:55 AM Monday morning, May 2. She proceeded to strike the rear end of a stopped school bus, which was picking up passengers. The bus’ stop arm was extended and lights were activated at the time of collision. There were 34 kids on the bus.

Hansel, who was wearing a seat belt, was injured as a result of the crash. She was taken to a hospital in Manchester, Iowa.

Authorities say charges are pending.
