ANKENY – The NIACC women’s golf team will compete in the NJCAA Region XI tournament Friday and Saturday at Otter Creek Golf Course.
First-round play starts at noon on Friday and the second round begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The winning team and the next 10 individuals not on the winning team qualify for the NJCAA national tournament May 16-19 at the LPGA International course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Lady Trojans have qualified at least one golfer for the national tournament in Chris Frenz’ first nine years as coach. Savannah Lentz tied for eighth at last year’s regional tournament with a 81-85 – 166 to earn her trip to the national meet.
NIACC placed fourth at last year’s regional tournament at Otter Creek with a 357-365 – 722.
The NIACC women’s low round of the 2016 spring season was a 345 at the NIACC Invitational on April 21. Lyndie Phillips led the Lady Trojans with a 84. Other counting scores for the Lady Trojans were Lentz with a 86, Bailey Walter with a 86 and Carlie Eckenrod with a 89.
In five rounds this spring, Lentz has a 88.6 average with a low round of 85 at the Lake Panorama Golf Course in Panora on April 17. Bailey Walter has a 89.8 average with a low round of 86 at the Mason City Country Club on April 21.
