MASON CITY – A Mason City man was caught drunk driving with a gun and drugs in his possession and reached a plea deal that put him behind bars.
A Cerro Gordo deputy assisted the Iowa State Patrol with a traffic stop on December 3, 2015 near Balsam Avenue and 210th Street. Asa result of the stop and subsequent investigation, 24-year-old Seth Thomas Thornblade was arrested on several charges, including first offense operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and possession of an unloaded assembled gun.
“If you are intoxicated and have a firearm (it does not matter what kind of firearm you have)…your carry permit is not valid,” Sheriff Kevin Pals told NIT.
In January, Thornblade reached a plea deal with prosecutors. All charges were dropped except the drunk driving charge. He was sentenced to 5 days in jail with work release, had his driver’s license revoked, and ordered to pay $1,797.50 in fines and court fees.
