CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS – The Iowa Hawkeyes claimed sole possession of first place in the Big Ten Conference with a 77-65 win against Illinois Sunday.

The fifth-ranked University of Iowa men’s basketball team moved to 19-4 overall and 10-1 in Big Ten play after winning on the road at Illinois, 77-65, on Sunday afternoon. With today’s win, Iowa has now won consecutive games at Illinois (2014 and 2016) for the first time since the 1986-87 season.

Adam Woodbury’s improved play continued, as he notched his sixth double-double of the season (10 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists) and his fourth in seven games. Woodbury has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in five of the last six games.

Peter Jok led all scorers in today’s game with 23 points. He has scored 20 or more points seven times this season. Iowa is 7-0 in those games.

Jarrod Uthoff recorded his second double-double of the season and the sixth of his career (18 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks). His 12 rebounds tie for a career best.

Iowa’s 10-1 start in Big Ten play this season is its best start in league play since starting 10-1 in 1981-82.

Nine of Iowa’s 10 conference wins this season have come by double digits — most by an Iowa team since 1996-97 season (nine).

Iowa has won 12 of its last 17 true road games dating back to last season. Iowa is 4-1 in Big Ten road games this season — its best start since the 1997-98 season (4-1)

The Hawkeyes are back in action Thursday, traveling to Bloomington, Indiana for a conference showdown with Indiana (19-5, 9-2). Tipoff is at 8 p.m. (CT) and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
