Governor Chet Culver to hold town meetings on Medicaid

DES MOINES – Former Iowa Governor Chet Culver will hold a series of town meetings, beginning on Tuesday, February 9th, to meet with people affected by the proposed Medicaid privatization, and to highlight the impact of the proposal on Iowa’s 560,000 people who rely on Medicaid for their health care needs.

The meetings are open to the public and to the media, and are designed to provide a way for Iowans impacted by the ongoing Medicaid discussion to make their voices known to state and national leaders.

“Half a million Iowans use Medicaid for their health care needs. But Iowa’s swift move toward privatization is putting peoples’ health at risk. Iowans with disabilities who use Medicaid – more than 120,000 people – stand to lose the most with this move,” said Governor Culver.

“Our purpose here is simple – to make sure that first and foremost, the health care needs of Iowans are guaranteed. I encourage all Iowans to get involved on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of our friends, family members, and neighbors who have been left out in this rush to privatization.”
