MASON CITY – Police say it’s just a wise thing to do when you clear the snow off the roof of your vehicle, plus, it keeps yourself and other drivers safe.

The Mason City Police Department offered “a polite encouragement” after our snowstorm this week “to brush the snow off the roof of your vehicle.”

“Especially if the whole amount from our last storm is still piled on,” an officer reported, as he warned of the dangers of driving with a pile of snow on top of your vehicle.

“I saw a hazard almost become a disaster today,” the officer explained. “As a vehicle came to a stop at a red light, the entire load of snow on the roof slid onto the windshield. The windshield wipers were of no use. Luckily the driver was able to safely pull off the road and take care of the problem, no harm, no foul. But, imagine that happening if you happen to just slow instead of stopping?”

Mason City police remind, again, to keep yourself safe and clear the snow off your vehicle before you drive.
