MASON CITY – The North Central Iowa Volunteers for Child Passenger Safety are alerting the public regarding a significant recall of car seats.

Britax has announced that some of its infant carriers (in the B-Safe 35 models) pose a potential for harm for infants. The recall specifically involves a defect in the carrying handle of these infant seats. Britax has received reports of cracks developing in and around the carrying grip. If these cracks develop, it can lead to the handle breaking and the seat dropping out of the parent’s hand. Britax does have a repair kit that owners of these seats can request.

If your Britax B-Safe 35 was manufactured between October 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015, DO NOT USE THE HANDLE TO CARRY YOUR INFANT IN THE CAR SEAT until you have checked to make sure it has not been recalled.

More information regarding specific model numbers involved in this recall can be found on Britax’ website under Service & Support and Safety Notices (https://us.britax.com/service-support/safety- notices). The public can also contact North Central Iowa Volunteers for Child Passenger Safety certified technicians to assist them in identifying if their Britax has been recalled. Technicians available to assist the public are Al Haubrich (641-494-6602), Jeremy Ryal at the Mason City Police Department (641-421-2716) and Jo Beck at the Mason City Fire Department (641-421-3640).
