MASON CITY – Some Mason City schools were put on lockdown today, the school district says.

According to the Mason City Community School District, they received contact from the Mason City Police Department Friday notifying the district of a situation in the vicinity of the Roosevelt Elementary, Lincoln Intermediate, Operations Garage and Administrative Center Campus.

The district put their safety protocol plans into effect – locking down all these buildings at approximately 12:15 PM. The district says it worked “in constant cooperation with the Mason City Police Department” and received notification it was safe to lift the lockdown of these buildings/campus at approximately 1:15 PM.

Mason City police have not yet explained the disturbance that led to the lockdown situation.

The Mason City Community School District thanked the Mason City Police Department “in their due diligence in keeping our students’ and staff’s safety an uppermost priority and thank you to our staff, students and families cooperation when these type of incidences arise.”
