Source: Vacant restaurant and bar in downtown Mason City may be coming back to life

MASON CITY – A former long-time hotspot in downtown Mason City that has been closed for years may soon be greeting new customers.

A source tells NIT that the vacant building that once housed the Other Place bar and restaurant – located at located at 125 1st Street SE – has been rented or leased by a current bar owner who plans to move his business.

The Other Place closed suddenly back in June of 2012. A sign was hung in each of the front doors, which said, “The Other Place is closed for business effective June 11, 2012.  Thank you for your patronage in Mason City for the last 23 years.”

The venue has set empty ever since, and number of realtors have tried to find a tenant to come in and breath new life into the place.

Wise Guys Sports Bar, located at 631 6th Street SW, posted just minutes ago to social media that they are moving from that location, and a source confirmed to NIT their new location will be at 125 1st Street SE:

“Well Folks it’s OFFICIAL !!!!! Thanks to all of our loyal customers the last 5 years Wise Guys will be moving to a larger location & be serving FOOD !!! At least it isn’t another corporate McAppleO’kellyTuesday’s.
Love to support Mom&Pop shops.

Hope that They will have birthday cake by the slice. I have a coupon.

Hope it works out, lets face it MC is a rather boring town.

Well hope he actually brings in bands outside of the same bands that play around Mason. Otherwise nothing new, same old scene.

Hopefully they’ll bring in some good hip hop from Chicago.

No parking = No business

Excellent relevant observation. Thanks

He keeps control in his facility. Best of luck to him in his new location.

I just hope his new adventure doesn’t turn into another 11’s. One bad apple wont spoil the whole darn bag, but a bunch of them bad apples well. Good Luck we need another place to have fun, food and a good drink.

Good luck on this new adventure.
