Mohawk Danzers sweep state competition

MASON CITY – A team of dancers and athletes from Mason City High School swept the state competition in Des Moines this weekend.

The Mohawk Danzers finished competing at the state competition in Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines on December 4 and 5 and they had a clean sweep of the events. They finished first in every dance category they competed in:

· First place in the large school Hip Hop Category

· First in the large school Novelty Category

· First in large school Prop Category

· They also won the Judges Choice Award for the best overall dance routine

The Mohawk Danzers practice around 20-30 hours a week during the month of November in preparation for state. They are some of the hardest working athletes around, parents tell NIT.

If that was not enough, just to show the quality of girls on this team, they won the Outstanding community service Award for the countless hours of community service they have given back to Mason City.

They have also donated over 200 service hours in the Mason City community this season. Cleaning streets, working with kids, walking dogs, and more.
