NIACC’s Peterson earns ICCAC player of the week honors

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – NIACC sophomore Trudy Peterson was selected as the ICCAC women’s basketball player of the week for the week of Nov. 16-22.

Peterson, who prepped at Clear Lake, scored a school-record 51 points to lead No. 9 NIACC to a 131-71 victory over Kennedy King College Saturday at the Dale Howard Classic in Iowa Falls.

Peterson, who scored 30 points in Friday’s loss to State Fair CC, was 12 of 17 from 3-point range in the win over Kennedy King.

The previous NIACC women’s school record was 44 points by Chelsey Jacox against Iowa Central in the 2013-14 season. Peterson’s previous career high was 39 points against Milwaukee Area Tech during her freshman season.

Peterson’s 51 points was one off the NJCAA Division II single-game record held by Lake Land’s Kandy Lindsey in the 1999-2000 season.

The 12 3-point goals by Peterson tied the school’s single-game record also held by Jennifer Currier in the 1987-88 season against Kirkwood. Peterson now has 78 career 3-point goals, which ranks 12th on the school’s career list.

It’s the second time this season a NIACC women’s basketball player has earned the league’s player of the week honor. Sophomore Sammie Sproul was the ICCAC and NJCAA Division II player of the week for the week of Oct. 26-Nov. 1.
