MASON CITY – Charges were filed after a brawl erupted at Mason City High School that involved a “new kid” from Chicago, Hispanic students, school staff and others.

Mason City police denied information forwarded to NIT that as many as 12 people had been arrested or charged in the November 3 incident.  A source had told NIT that as many as 12 people had been handcuffed and taken away. However, they did confirm that perhaps as many as 8 or more people were involved in the fracas to one extent or another, which began when 15-year-old “Isaiah” – who recently moved to Mason City from Chicago – became involved in a situation with another male student. Sources tell NIT that “Isaiah” was “picking fights with Mexicans” that morning. This confrontation led to at least two more Hispanic male students becoming involved and facing off with “Isaiah”. Police described the incident initially as “being disorderly in the hallway” but sources tell NIT things became very heated and physical.

Police said “two more friends or relatives” got involved and then school staff. Sources tell NIT that “Isaiah” punched a male teacher, but police said it was only a push. The situation was eventually brought under control, and “Isaiah” was charged with simple assault for his actions against the teacher, who was trying to break up the fight. “Isaiah” and two other Hispanic male students were charged with disorderly conduct.

Another source told NIT that this fall, “Isaiah” was at East Park with a group of teens when he chased some younger kids through the park and threatened to beat them up. He had perceived that one of them had called his brother “fat”.

Also in the last few days at Mason City High School, on Novemeber 3, two 15-year-old boys were charged with disorderly conduct after they became involved in a fight.

On November 2, a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were charged with disorderly conduct after they became involved in a fight.
