MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health would like to congratulate the Mason City Water Department on being given the Water Fluoridation Quality Award from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Iowa Department of Public Health announced last week, that the Mason City Water Department is one of 40 Iowa entities to be awarded.
Fluoridation is the adjustment of fluoride in drinking water to a level effective for preventing tooth decay. The award recognizes those communities that achieved excellence in community water fluoridation by maintaining a consistent level of fluoride in drinking water throughout 2014.
“The water quality in our community is vital to the health and wellbeing of our residents,” said Brian Hanft, Environmental Health Service Manager, Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health. “We are very proud to work alongside the Mason City Water Department. Over the years, the Water Department has proven to be a valuable public health partner and we congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition that promotes oral health.”
