MASON CITY – Two people were treated for injuries after a brawl at a party on Mason City’s south side this weekend.
According to Mason City police, on October 11, 2015, at 3:06 AM, officers were dispatched to a report of a stabbing in the 000 block of 21st Street SE, owned by James and Dawn Merrick. The address is now identified as 34 21st Street SE. One subject had been stabbed in the leg at a party at a residence at this location. The stabbed subject was transported to Mercy Hospital via ambulance. Police say there appears to have been a female that sought medical treatment also from the altercation involving several people.
The case is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made. The names of the injured persons were not released by police. NIT is told a man was stabbed in the leg and was bleeding profusely, which led to him being sent to Iowa City for treatment. A woman was also injured – said to have been punched in the face. A source tells NIT the fight started when a black man was called a racial slur by a woman at the party.
